Tunbridge Tier (TT)

PG5/HG-Adv rating. PG4/HG-Int by invitation.

Tunbridge Tier is one of the highest THPA managed launches in Tasmania, and consequently one of the best launches for XC flight. In light conditions, thermals can be drawing up through the launch area even against the predominant wind and early in the day, making launching in light westerlies possible. The area can be really thermic, good wing control and decision-making are imperative. This is not a soaring site. Oh, and you're almost gauranteed to get "eagled" at some stage ;-)

Due to landowner concerns - pilots MUST take extra care when driving in to launch, and to follow contact protocols.

Hazards

The clearing in the tree could funnel the wind coming from the North and give you a feeling of nice straight wind coming from the face when it is actually coming 90 degrees off the face. Care must be taken on the Lz to assess the prevalent wind direction.

An angry eagle has been observed attacking gliders here for years. This eagle will attack repeatedly. You've been warned!!
