Trial Harbour

PG3/HG-Int

Trial Harbour is generally a soaring site with cliffs up to 100m AMSL, occasional thermal lift coming from the township. The optimal direction is South to SSW.

Straight off launch the hill provides a good smooth ridge with predictable lift. Travelling out to the west presents saw tooth ridge line with limited lift. If you proceed further west over the water the ridge regains nice shape and plenty of lift. It is advised not to proceed here directly taking longer beats until it is deemed safe to proceed. Landing options are minimal here and tricky for the newer pilot.

Hazards

Launch has many small shrubs which catch lines and could present as a hazard.

Launch has the potential to loft or scoop a pilot into the air before they are ready. A good assessment of the wind strength is necessary.

Landing is mainly on the beach with the allowance of lower tides.

Trial harbour is mainly with no reception from mobile networks so carrying a satellite tracker is recommended and flying alone is not advised.

Being close to the water it is expected people can see increases with wind strength easily and it is advised to land sooner rather than later.
