PG5/HG-Advanced (PG4/HG-Int by invitation)

kunanyi/Mount Wellington is 3500' top to bottom – the biggest in Australia. A great sled ride, or XC start point.

It is a really appealing site but must be considered with respect. Really good ground-handling skills are required to take-off from this site. The landing is not visible from T/O.

PG4 pilots that want to fly from here are required to be supervised by an SSO (Senior Safety Officer) or Instructor for their first flights.

Once a PG4 pilot shows to SSO or Instructor that they have suitable launching skills and decision making abilities to safely fly the site, they will be allowed to fly with PG5 supervision.

Hazards

Very rocky launch; Be wary of light-wind launches as upper launch is flat-topped with a vertical 5m edge and often has cross/non laminar wind. Lower launch (Hangies Rock) has powerlines just below and L of launch; Glide to LZ can be difficult if there is a strong sea breeze and there are no landing options for several km.
