Single Hill - new voluntary no-fly zone

I received a call yesterday from a CASA representative about a complaint made by a resident of Kirra Road near Single Hill about low-flying paragliders.

The complaint states that the pilots are so low as to be able to talk to kids in their backyards. The residents (apparently more than one) feel their privacy is being invaded and some women are reluctant to use their pools or be in the back yard.

Any invasion of privacy must be taken seriously. While we think we are the coolest kids on the planet and everyone must love paragliders floating over their heads, not everyone agrees with our enthusiasm.

It is possible that the pilot(s) in question may have been closer than the 25m separation allowed under our flight rules.

The CASA rep that spoke to them pointed out that we have our hands pretty full just flying at that altitude and assured her there would be no ill-intention, but regardless the committee feels it would be best if we avoid over-flying any houses in that area.

We will be receiving an official complaint soon but in the meantime let’s not add fuel to the fire, or give anyone any reason to ban flying at Single Hill.

So for now let’s avoid flying over the area – at all if possible or at least at plenty of height if you still want to fly over. Let’s say 100m AGL to be safe.

If you are transiting to the beach to land either do it very high or along the coastline over water.
